Council comments highlight transparency and Holiday Cheer

Oxnard-- Council members reflected on the Holiday Spirit and concerns during their Tuesday, December 5, public comments as the body looks forward to the New Year.

COUNCIL Mem­ber Gabe Teran said he attended the City’s Christmas Tree Lighting and thanked the Oxnard Downtowners for coordinating the event.

“Especially our Public Works Department,” he said. “I was at a meeting at Starbucks and happened to cross Mr. Howlett, who was working with the Staff, to get the lights put up and test all the electricity. It’s a reminder that these things don’t magically happen. There are folks directly involved in making these things happen.”

He also spoke to a couple of Oxnard High School classes about local government, structure, and his journey growing up in Oxnard.

“My story is not a unique one; I grew up with many family and community challenges,” he said. “I take those to heart every decision I make up here.”

He said the Riverpark Neighborhood Council is meeting on Wednesday, December 6.

“It’s their first meeting going back indoors after the summer,” he said.

Council Member Oscar Madrigal said he always enjoys participating in the Christmas Parade.
