Council Honors Arts Community for Arts, Culture, and Creativity

Oxnard--The City Council wrapped up a busy agenda full of proclamations by inviting OPAC (Oxnard Performing Arts Center) Executive Director Carolyn Merino Mullin to accept a proclamation declaring April as Arts, Culture, and Creativity Month during the Tuesday, April 16 meeting.

MAYOR John Zaragoza called Arts, Culture, and Creativity Month a statewide celebration first established by the California Legislator in 2019.

“The City of Oxnard believes that arts, culture, and creativity are essential in a thriving community,” he said. “Arts inspire discovery, lifelong learning, and joy.”

He said culture connects encouragement, understanding, and strengthening the community.

“Creativity sparks innovation, growth, and positive change,” he said. “Arts organizers serve the Cities and lead efforts to advance the arts through programs, partnerships, and community building. The collective work of local level work throughout the State encourages racial equity, uplifts our community, and changes our lives for the better.”

Merino Mullin said the arts are a big ecosystem in the community.

“We couldn’t have done this proclamation without our fellow colleagues in the arts,” she said. Merino said Rescue Con is their next big event on April 27.

“You can come do yoga with your doggies and adopt a cat,” she said.…
