Oxnard—The City Council opened with a closed session on July 30, and City Attorney Stephen Fischer said they will defer to their attorneys to discuss Douglas Partello versus Lourdes Lopez et al.
“THE City Council will also discuss, based on existing facts and circumstances, to decide whether to initiate litigation in one potential case,” he said. “The City Council will also recess to a closed session, based on existing facts and circumstances and significant exposure to litigation against the City in one potential case regarding ballot arguments and ballot labels related to November 2026 ballot Measure E.”
Alicia Percell spoke on the item and said Council Member Aaron Starr is not participating because he feels confident that Fischer will file arguments regarding the Measure O sales tax extension.
“If that is the case, they may ask you to approve an expenditure of City funds to sue, as real parties in interest, people who tend to be candidates running against the three incumbents for election in November. That’s an election season headline there, I think,” Percell said.
