Dee Dowell Scholarships Start Careers

Ventura—During the Tuesday, July 7 City Council Meeting, City Manager Bill Ayub said the

Ventura Police Officers Association is accepting applications for the 2026 Dee Dowell Memorial Scholarship Program.

OVER $5,000 in scholarships are available for local College Students seeking careers in Law Enforcement.

Applications must be submitted by midnight this evening, July 8.

“Since 2002, the program has awarded nearly $100,000 to Ventura Youth dedicated to serving their community,” he said. “To view eligibility requirements and apply, visit cityofventura.ca.gov/Dowell.”

As part of the City’s Arts & Culture Policy Development, Ayub said they’re gathering feedback from hundreds of community members on what arts and culture mean in Ventura.

“Now it’s time to review the draft findings and summaries, and please check out the Draft Summary Documents and provide feedback now through July 13,” he said. “All the details are available on the City’s website atcityofventura.ca.gov/ArtsCulture.”

The City hosted a community workshop at 6 p.m., July 8, to gather public input on the City’s pro-housing designation application.

“The prohousing designation is a State Incentive Program that can help the City compete for additional funding for affordable housing and infrastructure projects,” he said. “Community members are encouraged to attend and share feedback on the application. Public comments will be accepted…
