Oxnard--The Fraternal Order of the Eagles in Oxnard continued with its longstanding tradition of people helping people on April 2 and hosted a Bake Sale Fundraiser with proceeds going to the Diabetic Research Center.
THE event featured many cakes, pies, cookies, breads, muffins, and more created and baked by Chairperson Sue League, who spent the better part of two preparing for the event.
“Thank goodness there are freezers to put it all in,” she said. “We have cherry pie, apple pie, pumpkin cheesecake, regular cheesecake, pineapple upside-down cake, plum cake; we have brownies, lemon cake, apple bread, zucchini bread, pumpkin bread, and we have chocolate cherry chocolate chip bread.”
She called her baked items the good stuff.
“I make my own crust; my cheesecake came from a little recipe,” she said. “My pumpkin cheesecake is a really good pumpkin pie. I also have Key FOBS that represent Diabetes Awareness. My husband made those.”
Sue said that when your blood sugar gets high, and you can’t control it, you get sick.
“It wears you out, turns you around, and messes with your liver, kidneys, and your heart,” she said. “This goes to the research to hopefully find a cure someday.…
