Oxnard—The camping ordinance approval story continues, with Housing Director Emilio Ramirez saying the Street Outreach Team coordinates the effort with the Salvation Army. The team’s initial contact with the homeless is through the Street Outreach Team effort.
THE City Council approved the first reading of an ordinance amendment and waived a second reading, adding public areas to regulations on camping during its Tuesday, April 30 meeting.
“That outreach is done in coordination with the County of Ventura, Human Health Services, as well as the Oxnard Police Department,” Ramirez said. “That collective team responds to homeless persons in the field, unsheltered, and in offering services, as well as enforcement if enforcement is needed or services or services when service is needed.”
He said the condition on K Street hasn’t always been in the condition expressed by Council Member Gabe Teran, and theories can be made about how and why it got to such a state.
