Oxnard-- The Community Services, Public Safety, Housing & Development Committee, Tuesday, November 9, approved the Federal and State Asset Forfeiture Funds for the city.
THE action approved a $217,000 budget appropriation for the use of the federal, $60,000, and state asset forfeiture funds, $157,000, allocated to the Oxnard Police Department.
Police Finance Manager Dalia Campbell presented the item to the committee and said the Oxnard Police Department participates with various outside agencies like Ventura County, the State of California, the Department of Justice, and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) in the investigation and prosecution of narcotics-related crimes.
“Through equitable sharing, the net proceeds of the forfeiture are proportionately shared among the participating agencies,” she said. “These equitably shared funds must be used for law enforcement purposes that directly supplement the appropriated resources of the law enforcement agencies. The funds shall not replace or supplant existing resources. This year’s appropriation is to fund multiple areas, such as training that is not reimbursable by California Peace Officers Standards and Training (POST) and to purchase various equipment not covered by the general fund.”
