Port Hueneme—Serious athletes ready to compete, along with families and friends, celebrated the Second Hueneme Summer Fun Run on Saturday, August 10.
THE Fun Run began with a Run/Walk on the promenade down to the lighthouse, culminating on the sand with different stations, such as Hula Hooping, a Limbo Bar, and an inflatable Maze.
Participants took off from the Hueneme Wharf bright and early. Overcast skies gave way to sunshine, reflecting everyone’s happy faces. Competitors received a medal, and the top finishers collected trophies.
City of Port Hueneme Recreation Coordinator Taylor Penny said in addition to the obstacles the athletes will face, they’ll also have to score a goal with a soccer ball.
“Then, they’ll tap eight cones and finish the obstacle course,” she said. “The Run/ Walk is a little less than a mile.”
The Fun Run started at the Beach and ended at Moranda Park in 2023, but they decided to move the focus of the event to the Beach and focus on the promenade and sand-based activities.

“It’s something different, and we hope the community likes it,” she said. “We’ll accept feedback and continue improving future events.”
She loves every community event that brings everyone closer…
