Port Hueneme—The Hueneme Beach Festival returned Saturday and Sunday, July 11 and 12, and the hugely popular event attracted thousands of fans ready to enjoy summer.
THE Festival featured music, food, rides, crafts, soccer, dancing, and plenty of fun throughout the weekend.
Senior Corporal Henry Montelongo oversees the Port Hueneme Police Explorers, who are always happy to celebrate the Beach Festival.
"The Explorers are for people ages 13-20 years old, and it gives them a first-hand look at what it means to be an Officer," he said. "We have kids going to our Score Academy, which is four weeks and in-house. It's identical to the Academy, and we try to run it the same way so the kids can get a full-time glimpse of what it is to go to the Police Academy."
The Explorers have a mid-term and a final, and Montelongo said they will graduate on Saturday.
"The Chief of Police will be there, and they'll get their badges pinned on them," he said.
The Explorers also do things with the Oxnard Police Explorers, and Montelongo says they have a good working relationship with them.
