Jones Residence Declared Historic Residence

Ventura—The City Council, during its Tuesday, July 7, meeting, approved the Walter M. Jones residence as a historic residence in the City of Ventura, at 695-67 on East Main Street.

COMMUNITY Development Director Rachel Dimond and Assistant Planner Ruby Trigaro presented, and Dimond said they received a request for a Historic Landmark Designation.

Trigaro said the residence is located at East Main Street and North First Street.

The Home was constructed in 1913 for local business owner Walter M. Jones and is modeled after a Swiss Chalet with Tudor influences. The historic residence has since been converted to commercial use.

"It was identified in three historic surveys, most recently the 2025 Citywide Historic Survey," she said. "The Historic Preservation Committee (HPC) reviewed the project at the February 12, 2026, meeting and voted unanimously to recommend the item."

She said the HPC is being asked to take action to designate 122 as a Historic Landmark.

"The Walter M Jones Residence is found to be eligible for a Historic Landmark Designation, as it meets two distinct criteria for local landmarks," she said. "Criterion C, exemplifying a particular period of local history, and Criterion 3 embodying architectural significance."
