Memorial Day commemorated

Oxnard—During the Tuesday, May 19 meeting, the Oxnard City Council invited its Memorial Day Committee to receive a proclamation declaring Monday, May 25, as Memorial Day.

DISTRICT 4 Council Member Gabriela Rodriguez read the proclamation, which said, “whereas, on Memorial Day, our Nation pauses to reflect on our brave men and women in uniform, and their sacrifice to protect the interests of our Country, and their freedoms,” she said. “Each year, on the last Monday in May, is an opportunity to honor the men and women of the Armed Forces who bravely defend our freedoms, while remembering all those who died to save our Nation.”

She continued by saying, “whereas, by honoring these proud Service Men and Women, throughout our Country’s history, we uphold the Country’s history they fought and died to preserve.”

On May 25, 2026, the City of Oxnard will recognize these sacrifices with a ceremony at Plaza Park.

“Our Country remains the land of the free by the sacrifices made by our Service Men and Women,” she said. “This is from all branches of the military. Our Mayor, Luis McArthur, calls upon all citizens to recognize May 25 as Memorial Day.”

McArthur appreciates all the Veterans.
