Oxnard--The Community Services, Public Safety, Housing & Development Committee received the Oxnard Police Department’s 2022 use report on Military Equipment in use during its June 13 meeting.
OXNARD Police Department Special Operations Commander Tim Kelley presented the report and said the report is required since Assembly Bill 481 was passed in January 2022.
He said law enforcement agencies are required to make a list of the available Equipment and make it available to the public in accordance with Assembly Bill 481.
On June 7, 2022, he said the City Council adopted the Oxnard Police Department’s Military Equipment Use Policy and said it exists in Oxnard Police Department’s policy manual.
Information in the report contains a summary of how the Equipment is used, the purpose of its use, a summary of any complaints received concerning the Military Equipment, results of any internal audits, information about Military Equipment use policy violations, and any actions taken in response.
“The total annual cost for each type of Military Equipment, the quantity possessed for each type of equipment, as well as any Military Equipment the department intends to acquire the next year, including the quantity sought,” he said.
