Nash will demand a resilient water system for Calleguas

Oxnard-- The interview with Calleguas Municipal Water District 5 Candidate Steve Nash continues with what the area can do locally to capture stormwater.

HE is running to bring a local voice to important droug­ht issues and how to move forward and is endorsed by the entire Oxnard City Council.

He said capturing stormwater involves surface storage, whatever that ultimately means.

“We have to find a way to retain it, store it, treat it, and get it put into the aquifers, which I think will really play a huge part,” he said. “The aquifers have a lot of capacity right now to store excess water that we can get. This is something that the City wants to do. They want to have the ability to utilize conjunctive water use.”

He said water is readily available, whether it’s surface water from the Santa Clara River or State Water flowing down the canal.

“We can grab that water and use that water and even get it injected into the aquifer at a bargain rate,” Nash said. “If the water is available, the City is an interested customer, but they’ll want to be able to get a good price to access the water…
