Nguyen dispels Rice Ave Gossip

Oxnard—During his Tuesday, March 4 report to the City Council, City Manager Alex Nguyen noted how impressed he was with the number of people who made public comments about Women’s History Month.

"MY Mother was also a single Mother, and now I’m a single son,” he said.

He said Ray Blattel publicly commented about the voting machines and noted it wasn’t always there.

“After I got here, I insisted on having some sort of voting machine, so we decided to get the simplest machine possible,” he said. “I joked that we bought a closed loop machine that you could buy at Radio Shack. We weren’t prepared to have a sophisticated program plugged into the City Clerk to help with the minutes. The old machine died, and the company no longer makes replacement parts for it.”

He is collaborating with City Clerk Luly Lopez and exploring a 21st-century system with a voting board on the screen and feed into software to make the minutes more efficient.
