Oxnard—The City Manager Workshop from Tuesday, February 2, continues with City Manager Alex Nguyen saying criminalizing the homeless continues without addressing the solution.
"IT’S not only here, but across the State and the Country,” he said.
The City has many challenges, and he said they are beyond the everyday challenges.
“There are always problems, and what is the best way to address them?” he said. “Throughout 2025, we’ve been experiencing a lot of hyperactivity at the White House, and that has a downhill effect on activities, not just in Oxnard, but across the nation.”
Nguyen tries to comprehend the impact on the State Government, which, in turn, has to make cuts that impact us, or the County, which had to make cuts that impact us.
“We also have to be aware of other policy changes and new policy direction, and various cuts made that will impact, not directly at City Hall, but they will impact our residents,” he said. “When those things happen, where do people show up to ask for support or complain? Our residents are not going to Washington, and they’re not even going to Sacramento; they’ll come to City Hall Chambers, what’s available.”
