Oxnard--In his Tuesday, December 19 Fun Facts report to the City Council, City Manager Alex Nguyen wanted to finish 2023 with something interesting and said Stanley Clarke Mestin was born in Oxnard in 1910 and designed the Golden Arches, which has become a fixture in the restaurant industry.
"HERE’S the impact: it’s in 114 countries and territories, and at last count, there are just under 200 countries around the world,” Nguyen said. “Here in California alone, there are nearly 1,300 McDonald’s restaurants, the most in the United States.”
Nguyen said many correlating good things came from McDonald’s, like the Ronald McDonald House.
“There are some bad things like the infamous California McMansions, which I get to bring that back to homelessness,” he said. “At last count, I believe there are seven (McDonalds) in Oxnard, we think.”
In Council Comments, Bert Perello said the City Manager’s Fun Facts have been extremely interesting to him.
“I know it has caused some people some real indigestion,” he said. “One of the things that came up that really blew me away was how the local schools stacked up against each other, and ours didn’t have a lot to brag about.”
