OFD Annual Report highlights teamwork and training

Oxnard--The Oxnard Fire Department Annual Report shows a busy 2022 with over 20,000 service calls and over 30,000 unit responses.

FIRE Chief Alex Hamilton told the Council that the Fire Department personnel do a phenomenal job daily. He showed videos and photos highlighting the training Firefighters use in real-life events.

“You risk a lot to save a lot,” he said. “These Firefighters were putting themself at great personal risk.”

The Fire Department is divided into two battalions, which increases safety and gives them more accountability on the Fire ground because more command personnel are in place.

“If there are dual incidents in the City, more than one at a time, we’ll have a Battalion Chief at each one of those incidents. Unfortunately, that happens too often. It allows better training and personnel development, which is huge as we continue to add further staff.”

When Hamilton became Chief in 2020, he said they started to evaluate the Department’s culture and ways to improve, and they are reaping the results of that effort now.
