Officers okay after crash

Ventura--At approximately 8:40 pm, Sunday, December 17, Deputy Castaneda and his K9 partner “Danny,” responded to a call for service at Neptune’s Net about a suspicious subject call in the parking lot.

WHILE Deputy Castaneda was traveling southbound on PCH near Deer Creek Road, his patrol unit was involved in a collision with a white sedan traveling northbound on the Pacific Coast Highway.

Upon impact, Deputy Castaneda’s vehicle veered off the roadway, became airborne, and landed on the large boulders near the shoreline.

Deputy Castaneda was transported to VCMC (Ventura County Medical Center) with non-life-threatening injuries. Danny, a two-year-old Dutch Shepherd, sustained a minor cut to his face.

The driver of the white sedan was also transported to VCMC for treatment. Following medical treatment, the driver was arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence.

The driver (who is currently on probation for DUI) was later booked at the Main Jail for felony DUI.

The cause of the collision is under investigation by the California Highway Patrol.
