OPD checkpoint nets nine arrests

Oxnard—On December 19, between the hours of 6 p.m. and 1:00 a.m., the Oxnard Police Department held a DUI/ Driver’s License checkpoint at Ventura Road and Devonshire Drive.

AT the same time, additional Officers conducted a citywide DUI saturation. The operations resulted in five arrests for DUI and 9 citations for various violations, including driving while unlicensed.

Checkpoint locations are based on a history of crashes and DUI arrests. The primary purpose of checkpoints is not to make arrests but to promote public safety by deterring drivers from driving impaired.

Funding for this checkpoint and DUI enforcement patrols was provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
