Oxnard--The Fraternal Order of the Eagles in Oxnard was back at work making a difference in the community Sunday, January 15, as the Lodge held its Annual Diabetes Fundraiser, with proceeds going toward research.
THE evening featured Chili Relleno, Rice, Beans, and Dessert, DJ Yo Yo, along with a raffle and opportunity drawing.
Junior Past Madam President Cynthia Casillas said they’re holding the fundraiser to raise money for Diabetes research, and the money they make will go towards that effort.
“We’ve been doing this for many years,” she said. “We sell food or dances or whatever. We have an opportunity drawing, which is a 50/50, and we hold raffles.”
She said they also sold little paper fingers with a blood drop, representing how Diabetics test their blood regularly and people dedicate those fingers to people.
“This is important to me because my Father in Law passed last year, and he was Diabetic,” Casillas said. “My parents are Diabetic, and my husband is Diabetic. I have a lot of family who are Diabetic, and I pray and hope they find the cure one day.”

Casillas said they made about 55 dinners and sold out .“The prizes are all donated by…
