Oxnard Water plan mitigates droughts

Oxnard—The Calleguas Water District sustainability and reliability presentation on Tuesday, May 4, continues with General Manager Kristine McCaffrey telling the City Council that it held a WRIST (Water Resources Implementation Strategy) Partner Workshop in the summer of 2023.

HE said there were representatives of 40 agencies across Ventura County, including Oxnard.

“We had representatives from the Santa Clarita Valley Water District and Los Virgenes, who is our neighbor on the east side,” she said. I had never seen this many water people in Ventura County in one place at one time, particularly with that level of enthusiasm to engage in how we can best solve the problems that we are all facing. We all have these challenges, and if we work together, we can deliver more cost-effective and more successful solutions.”

She said they held a second workshop a couple of months ago focused on risks and uncertainties and the types of projects that fit into different themed portfolios.

“You’re going to look at a portfolio that’s lowest cost, but you’re also going to want to look at what if you focus on maximizing local supplies,” McCaffrey said. “What if you focus on maximizing the benefit of imported water…
