Port Hueneme updates its software

Port Hueneme--The city coun­­cil, Monday, June 6, ap­­pro­ved an agreement with Open­Gov inc to purchase on­line permitting, plan chec­k, and business license software.

COMMUNITY De­velop­ment Director Tony Stewart presen­ted the item, and he told the council that he can’t give the coun­cil an apples-to-apples cost-saving number by using the software but said it is a com­ponent of several upgrades they are doing citywide.

“Mrs. (Lupe) Acero, our Interim Finance Director, is also currently looking at replacing our larger ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) System, which we are currently a part of and which this will be replacing a part of,” he said. “This will also be our existing HDL, providing business licensing service.”

He said the system is cost-effective and allows the city to have a customer service portal where folks can apply for applications online, check the status of their plan check, and pay with a credit card online.

“Why we want to do this at this point is because it does have that very user-friendly customer portal to allow us to provide better customer service to all of our applicants,” he said. “Not only in planning and building and safety but also in Public Works and hopefully provide…
