Oxnard—During its Tuesday, June 1 City Council meeting, Council members declared June 2026 as Pride Month in Oxnard with a proclamation.
MAYOR Luis McArthur said they gathered earlier that morning and raised the Pride Flag, which is prominently displayed over City Hall.
“A few of us made comments, indicating our staunch support for the Pride Community, and the role they play in our City and Region,” he said. “It’s a visible demonstration of the bold statement we make as a City. We recognize our community and we want to make sure it’s safe. We welcome the LGBTQ+ community.”
Council Member Michaela Perez read the proclamation, and she said, led by Black, Trans, and Queer Leaders, Marcia P. Johnson, and Stormy Dile Veri, the LGBTQ+ community took a stand against brutality, and began the fight for LGBTQ+ rights at Stonewall Inn in New York City.
“Cities and Towns throughout the United States commemorate the Stonewall Riots each June by celebrating Pride Month,” she said. “A tremendous amount of progress has been made for LGBTQ+ rights.”
