Ventura—The Board of Supervisors, on Tuesday, September 22, welcomed Dr. Thomas Duncan, who highlighted Fall Prevention Awareness Month.
“FALLS are serious for older adults in particular, and here in Ventura County, we are helping our seniors stay strong and independent,” Board Chairman Jeff Gorell said. “Dr. Duncan, you always do a great job to get everyone together to focus on fall prevention. Thank you.”
Duncan thanked the Supervisors for welcoming him to speak about fall prevention and said the Ventura County Elderly Coalition is proud and honored to attend and receive the recognition.
“We’ve been coming out here since 2013,” he said. “With this week being the first week of fall and serendipitously, we like to share the impacts of falls in our community.”
He wants seniors to stay strong and independent.
“We’re going to play a video about keeping homes safe, but there is also something called evidence-based exercises, which are important to maintain balance,” he said. “Some of these are Tai Chi, Walk With Ease, Stepping On, Otago, and Bingocize.”
He said multiple evidence-based organizations and coalitions have come together to keep the County safe and seniors upright, and everyone can come together to make this happen.
