Oxnard—The Ventura County Animal Shelter conversation continues with Esteban Rodriguez, the Director of Ventura County Animal Services, saying that recent County Animal construction is taking place in San Bernardino County at a cost of $65.3 million, $37 million in San Diego County, $35 million in Orange County, and $20.3 million in San Luis Obispo County.
“THERE has been an ongoing need for a new shelter, and there is optimism that progress will be made soon in Ventura County,” he said. “The 2025 renderings showcase facilities in Ventura County and our partner Cities. This visual plan highlights how improved infrastructure supports daily operations, staff, volunteers, and enhanced animal care.”
He said the shelter designs reflect more than 10 years of collaboration and planning.
“As we move forward, these renderings mark a pivotal commitment to progress,” he said.
Rodriguez said there are plans to add a few more acres at the Camarillo Shelter.
“Ventura County Animal Services (VCAS) faces significant liability exposure,” he said. “We take on most of the risk”
He said the unincorporated area has only 19 percent of animal intakes, and VCAS bears all the responsibility it contract for.
