Oxnard--The Community Services Public Safety, Housing & Development Committee adopted a resolution acknowledging receipt of a report about inspecting certain occupancies on Tuesday, Feb. 27.
THE Fire Prevention Division at the Oxnard Fire Department covers many things and plays a critical role in the residents’ public safety.
Fire Chief Alex Hamilton presented the report and said the Fire Prevention Division enforces fire and life safety codes, hazardous materials regulations through its CUPA Program, construction review and inspections, arson and fire investigation services, and public education.
“Part of the reason for this update is due to Senate Bill (SB) 1205, and this Senate bill was negotiated after the Oakland fire that tragically took 36 individuals,” he said. “This bill requires that we annually come to our elected body to explain what we’ve accomplished in terms of state-mandated inspections and what we haven’t accomplished.”
Hamilton noted that SB 1205 covers only a small portion of all fire prevention responsibilities.
“SB 1205 covers only a small bit of fire and life safety codes, whereas many things the Fire Prevention Bureau covers aren’t impacted by SB 1205,” he said. “One of the things covered is Residential Group, or R, R1, and R2 inspections.…
