Ventura—The Board of Supervisors, on Tuesday, August 4, was updated by Ventura County Animal Services (VCAS) on its exploration of cost-sharing across the County.
ESTEBAN Rodriguez, the Director of Ventura County Animal Services, spoke on the subject, thanked the Board of Supervisors, and said they wanted to share the cost-sharing methodology.
“If we root our negotiations through a modified model, there is a potential for significant increases to all Cities,” he said. “At the conclusion of our discussion, we will be asking the Board to enter into meaningful dialogue with our City partners.”
He said the goal is to better understand how to approach the negotiations, ensuring we enter this process thoughtfully and collaboratively.
The last negotiated City/County contract was in 2020, and he said the current contracts are structured to separate services and costs by program area.
“However, these are contributions or total capital projects,” he said. “Our existing cost-sharing methodology has not kept up with rising expenses, as a result of the County sharing its overall costs.”
