Oxnard-- The City Council, November 15, approved an Agreement with WEX Bank for fuel cards that will be used by the City staff.
Fleet Services Division Manager Jose Arreola presented the video item to the Council and said the amount will not exceed $8.8 million for a two-year term for fuel cards.
He said fleet services perform maintenance and repairs on its 946 fleet vehicles.
“In addition to vehicle maintenance, Fleet is also responsible for oversight of the fuel card program,” he said. “The City currently purchases unleaded, diesel and compressed natural gas (CNG) through WEX Bank.”
He said the total fuel purchased during the fiscal year 2021-2022 was $3.031 million.
“On December 3, 2019, the Council approved the WEX Government Fuel Card Program, which allows for the purchase of unleaded, diesel and CNG fuels,” Arreola said. “Prior to WEX, the City was operating with only two vendors, Shell and Voyager, which only offered a limiting number of fueling stations.”
He said converting to WEX Fuel Cards has increased operational efficiency and decreased administrative burdens by providing greater oversight of the Fuel Card program as a whole and web-based portal.
