Oxnard--On a 5-1 vote, the City Council approved the acquisition of 201 South D Street, improved with a 10-unit multi-family development during its Tuesday, April 30 meeting.
The site is at the corner of Second and D Streets and directly across the street from the Oxnard Police Department.
Council Member Bert Perello voted no and did not want to put the City at risk over the possibility of lead-based paint being at the property. “I would like to roll the dice with the City of Oxnard on something I feel a little more comfortable with, and I don’t with this,” he said.
Housing Director Emilio Ramirez said the site is an older historic structure with 10 multi-family units ranging from studio to three-bedroom apartments.
“The staff proposes to use excess CDBG (Community Development Block Grant) that we have on hand, which was presented to the Council on December 19,” he said. “The City Council did authorize the negotiation and the acquisition of real property for the provision of affordable housing and use of those funds.”
