Amrep agreement approved

Oxnard--The Public Works and Transportation Committee unanimously approved an agreement with Amrep Manufac­turing Company to inspect, main­tain, and repair Amrep refuse collec­tion vehicles during its Tuesday, December 12 meeting.

Council Member Arthur Valen­zuela Zavala motioned the item, which Committee Chair Bert Perello seconded.

Fleet Services Manager Jose Arreola presented the agreement, which approves Mayor John Zaragoza to execute an agreement with Amrep for a one-year term and an option to extend the term for four consecutive years for Amrep’s collection fleet on an on-call basis.

“The total contract has a not to exceed amount over the entire term of $750,000,” he said.

The Fleet Services Division of the Public Works Department performs maintenance and repairs on the City’s 55 Amrep waste collection fleet, and he said although the fleet division performs the majority of the maintenance on the vehicles, fleet services require a vendor to provide as needed repairs and overflow maintenance, maximize downtime, and keep the collection operations functioning at capacity.

“The City’s waste collection fleet is composed of approximately 85 percent Amrep refuse trucks,” he said. “Amrep is the only manufacturer of various types of refuse bodies. They design and manufacture various types of refuse bodies.”
