Oxnard-- The City Council’s update from the Oxnard Police Department continues with Chief Jason Zaragoza saying the Department hopes to add two positions to its Neighborhood Policing Team as the hiring gap gets resolved and the Department is restructured.
“We would have what is essentially the equivalent of our Beat Coordinator Program from several years back,” he said. “Each beat would be staffed with a beat coordinator, which would be a police corporal position that would be there to help coordinate the beat teams in addressing neighborhood issues, and I say that because those are the things that are more long term.”
He said that since things are reopening in the community, the Department has things coming up, as April is a busy month at the Oxnard Police Department.
“Last Friday (April 1), we graduated some cadets from the Ventura County Criminal Justice Training Center,” he said. “Then, throughout the month of April, you can expect to see some of our Autism Acceptance Pop-Ups where we will be working with the Ventura County Autism Society to raise funds. We will be selling the patches; we will be selling t-shirts and other items to raise that nonprofit.”
