Axon Enterprises amendment to be considered

Oxnard--The City Council will consider a fifth amendment for agreement A-7858 with Axon Enterprises Inc. for body-worn cameras (BWCs) and other services during its Tuesday, November 7, meeting.

The agreement increases Axon’s total contract amount to $4.1023 million.

Commander Rocky Marquez from the Oxnard Police Department presented the item and noted that body-worn cameras have been shown to have a positive impact on the public’s perception and confidence in the Police.

“Overall, BWCs improve Police-Community interactions as well as promote transparency in operational procedures,” he said. “Axon Enterprises is an industry leader in BWC technology.”

He said the City Council approved the original agreement with Axon Enterprises in March 2016 for $375,609 for 50 BWCs and Taser Brands Conducted Energy Weapons (CEWs).

“In September 2016, the City Council approved the first amendment to the agreement in the amount of $729,808 for the purchase of an additional 100 BWCS and CEWs,” he said. “In March 2018, the City Council approved the agreement in the amount of $268,974 for the purchase of an additional 50 BWCs, increasing the department’s inventory of BWCs assigned to sworn personnel to 200.”
