Banana Festival around the corner

Port Hueneme—The City Council, Monday, September 3, adopted a resolution granting a special use permit allowing The Port of Hueneme/Oxnard Harbor District to host The 11th Annual Port of Hueneme Banana Festival and find it exempt from CEQA.

The free Festival provides the community with a celebration featuring a myriad of food, music, shopping, and activities showcasing the Port of Hueneme.

Most of the Festival will be within the Port of Hueneme’s “Sunkist Lot” south of 105 E. Port Hueneme Road. The Festival has expanded and proposes a static vintage car show along South Market Street and West Surfside Drive.

Economic Development Director Associate Planner Jose Coyotl presented the item, which will take place from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. Saturday, September 28, and feature 70 food and retail vendors, a recreational children’s area, alcohol service booths, a main entertainment stage, commercial/industrial mechanical equipment exhibits, land and boat Port tours, as well as general informational booths.

 

“Approximately 10,000 participants will be there,” Coytl said. “There is live entertainment that’s going to be part of the event and public streets adjacent to Hueneme Beach Park. There is also a request for free parking for this event.”
