Port Hueneme--The City Council approved a survey with adjustments to ensure the name for the application status of a Richard Bard Monument from the Oxnard Harbor District on Monday, March 18.
The Council also approved adding a map to the statue’s location to see its exact location and make it a City and Port Joint effort with a notice the survey is only for Port Hueneme residents.
The application proposes a 1,000-pound, seven-foot statue of Richard Bard on a four-foot pedestal and proposed to be located at the center of the Wharf Plaza, adjacent to the intersection of Market Street and Surfside Drive.
The Citizen Advisory Commission (CAC) recommended the City Council support an application submitted by the Oxnard Harbor District to construct and install a monument, and the Council will determine the statute’s location.
Deputy City Manager Charles Peretz said the Council initially approved the monument on March 21, 2022, with a $50,000 allocation for phase one.
