Broadband Master Plan revealed

Port Hueneme—The City Council received the results of its Broadband Master Plan study during its Monday, July 25, meeting and discovered that improvement opportunities exist within the City.

Community Development Manager Steve Kinney said Broadband is recognized as a basic utility building block to make a truly competitive City and County.

“We launched this in the fall of last year, around October, and it was one of the ARPA projects you approved last year,” he said.

Jeff Lewis and Preston Young from Government Technology Group presented the item and Lewis said the firm did a market needs analysis for Port Hueneme and identified needs and goals for the City.

“The primary objective is inclusivity and that’s what the State and Federal Government wants,” Lewis said. “They want to be sure we get broadband out to the entire community, not just the areas the providers pick and choose. They’re there to make a profit. They’re not going to go to neighborhoods where they don’t make a profit.”

He wants to make sure the Broadband is a reliable network and noted that in a survey there was a reliability issue.
