Port Hueneme—During its Monday, September 16 meeting, the City Council approved awarding a contract for playground equipment design and installation to Great Western Recreation for the Bubbling Springs Park Renovation Project.
The playground equipment and surfacing scope of work was removed from the Bubbling Springs Park Renewal Project contract with Staples Construction, issued December 5, 2023, and the Council agreed to solicit separate bids for playground equipment and safety rubber surfaces to yield more competitive pricing and higher quality products.
City Manager James Vega led the discussion and gladly brought the matter back to the Council.
“Almost a year back, we split out the playground portion of that project so we can go through the bid process, take our time, and make sure we get the playground right without holding up the rest of the park project,” he said. “It’s coming together well, and we’re going to be able to bring back the playground for approval and get it all synchronized.”
Recreation and Community Services Manager Anna Hanely said an RFP (Request for Proposals) for the design, furnishing, and installation of park equipment was distributed on July 9, with an August 8 deadline.
