BULKY ITEM DROP-OFF ENERGIZES REGION 1

Oxnard-- Residents within Oxnard’s Region 1 took neighborhood cleanup to a whole new level Saturday, March 5, as a good-sized group of people took advantage of the Bulky Item Dropoff event in the Oxnard PAL Parking lot on K Street.

THE event will continue weekly through March as residents dropped off unwanted items and also brought over items they found dumped on the city’s streets.

Environmental Resources Route Checker Dons Stevens said the effort used to take place in neighborhoods, and the city would drop dumpsters down.

“They canceled them due to the pandemic,” he said. “We all met together and decided we were going to do separate locations in the month of March.”

Stevens said he saw a patio set being dropped off, which piqued his interest.

“We also saw one of those cutouts for a homecoming, where you had the princess and the football player,” he said. “You can pop your head in, and someone can take your picture.”

 

He hopes the effort will reduce the illegal dumping in Oxnard.

“It gives residents a chance to drop off their unwanted household items free of charge instead of driving all the way to the facility,” he said. “The…
