Ventura—On a 5-1 vote, Rep Representative Salud Carbajal will have a new office at City Hall starting July 1, his first office in Ventura County.
The term of the month-to-month lease will begin on June 1.
The vocal crowd had to be called to order many times and told to be quiet by the Council.
Philip Fields, a retired University Professor, said it’s sad that there are multiple letters for accommodation, and he doesn’t have documentation affecting the community during public comments.
“Our City is our fault,” he said.
James Harbaugh opposes renewing Congressman Carbajal’s lease.
“It’s a direct conflict of interest, and we can influence the decisions made by the Staff and Council,” he said. “Representative Steve Bennett had an office in California and Santa Clara. He can pay for many offices throughout the City instead of City Hall.”
Council Member Jim Duran said City Hall serves residents.
“City Hall is a non-partisan government building that serves all Ventura residents, regardless of their political affiliations,” he said. “Especially one who’s actively outspoken against the current administration.
