Celebration of the WHALES is interactive fun

Channel Islands--The Channel Islands Maritime Museum played host to the Annual Celebration of the Whales, which celebrates life at Channel Islands Harbor, along with causes that make the area a valuable resource.

BONNIE is a welcome volunteer and offered attendees an opportunity to fill out a form and win a prize as they arrived.

“You can take a chance, spin the wheel, and possibly win items,” she said. “I’m helping a good cause and enjoying a lovely day. We’re celebrating the Whale Migration and being with people.”

Rob Reigelman works at the Channel Islands Boating Center and mainly works with Cal State Channel Islands, but they also offer classes for communities and kids.

“We do anything on the water you can think of,” he said. “We have paddleboarding, kayaking, windsurfing, and sailing. It’s safe boating practices and safe water practices.”

 

He loves being on the water.

“We’re trying to spread the word about our different classes,” he said. “The class that is the most learning-intensive is sailing, but you don’t need to have anything to come into it. You can learn how to sail from not ever being able to sail to being able to do things by yourself.…
