Channel Islands-- The Channel Islands Maritime Museum was the place to be Sunday, March 27, as the Celebration of the Whales returned after the Covid-19 shutdown and delighted the attendees.
THE parking lot was filled with Maritime-themed booths and more as the crowd learned about essential activities in the harbor, including how to make rope knots worthy of a vessel. They even got to see a master craftsman carve fabulous creations out of wood.
The Museum was open to the public, as many first-timers enjoyed the treasures inside.
Maritime Museum Executive Director Adri Howe said it would be an understatement to say they are thrilled to welcome back the Celebration of the Whales.
“We’ve been waiting to bring our community back in a large way, and this is a wonderful way to start doing that,” she said. “We’re so lucky that we have these amazing neighbors that go through our waters. To celebrate them is what it’s all about.”
She noted that a couple of groups weren’t comfortable returning because of lingering fears about Covid-19.
