Channel Islands—Smart Shoppers filled their bags with Holiday Treats and Treasures on Sunday, November 30, at the Channel Islands Farmers’ Market.
HOLIDAY Shoppers found great stocking stuffers, handmade gifts, and unique items, which support local vendors.
Emily Barbata from Golden Bee Candles and Crochet said she’s made candles her whole life.
“It’s a family business,” she said. “I grew up watching my Mom and Dad make candles. My candles are made of beeswax, which is better for the environment. It’s safe to burn around Babies and Pets.”
She also had a collection of macabre-style skull candles made from a mold.
“You pour it, and it dries and hardens in a couple of hours,” she said. Making candles is my side hustle. I’m a teacher in Port Hueneme.”
She inherited most of her mold from her Parents, but she also makes it.
Julia Bolognino learned crocheting from her Mom as a child.

“Sometimes I don’t finish projects, but not too many,” she said about unfinished treasures. “My favorite color to work with is blush pink. This is also my side hustle. I teach in the Ojai School District.”
