City maintains Support for Farmers

Oxnard—In his report during the Tuesday, July 29 meeting, City Manager Alex Nguyen said that during one of the first raids on a local farm, the Farm Bureau condemned ICE (The United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement).

“Then it proceeds to instruct us, the City, County, State, all the legislatures should do, but it was silent on what the Agri-Business would do for all their employees,” he said. “It discusses their $2 billion-plus economy, part of it.”

He said that with 1 percent of their economy, the type of support they would have in Oxnard and across the County could be immense.

“I want to see what they’re doing, which is curious,” he said. “I assume they’re doing nothing, and they assume that we’re doing nothing, but there are many things we are doing behind the scenes that we are working on.”

He displayed the Farm Bureau’s website, which represents the interests of farm workers, and it stunned him.

“I have no idea what’s happening to this industry,” he said. “I think it’s important that the employers of the farm workers are a major participant in the various solutions that are necessary.”
