Oxnard--In his report to the City Council on Tuesday, October 17, City Manager Alex Nguyen said a group of South Oxnard residents in September protested the projected homelessness services project in the area and commented that City Hall neglects South Oxnard.
He wanted to take time to point out all the investments City Hall makes in South Oxnard.
“I understand there are challenges, and life is difficult for various reasons, but it’s not because City Hall neglects South Oxnard,” he said.
He said the homeless project was not proposed by City Hall but by Cabrillo Economic Development, a non-profit affordable housing developer.
“The City was helping them along because we had some input into the potential project as we do with other projects with Cabrillo,” he said. “Cabrillo has been given that the project and was going through an evaluation process in Sacramento last week; Cabrillo notified us they were pulling out their application. That project is not going to happen at Del Playa.”
Nguyen said when residents ask why North Oxnard looks better than South Oxnard, those new areas are set up with Special Districts that pay for the improvements.
