College Park advocates never gave up

Oxnard-- The conversation with Larry and Shirley Godwin continues with Shirley saying that the proposal with the enterprise that would have brought ballfields to College Park went on for seven years, distracting any further development.

Larry and Shirley led a group of people advocating for College Park’s development for 50 years, and the group has stayed focused and never gave up.

“There were a lot of really good people in the city that knew that a lot of influence was being used,” she said. “In the meantime, the enterprise began using these proposals and projects in other cities.”

She said the College Park Advisory Committee was formed so businesses and residents could develop a plan for the park.

“They came up with this really good plan which was sidetracked,” she said.

The enterprise visited with the advisory committee, she said. The Committee Chair, Gloria Postel, did a very good job in a difficult situation because all of the people had their own agenda and wants for the park.”

Postel and the advisory committee came up with a plan that is what’s being planned to this day.
