Council approves 2022-2023 budget

Oxnard-- The City Council approved its fiscal year 2022-2023 operating and capital improvement budget during the Tuesday, June 21 meeting.

The action included authorizing full-time equivalent positions, classifying salaries, financial management policies, an appropriation limit, a Master Fee Schedule, and the Oxnard Housing Authority’s operating budget for the fiscal year 2022-2023.

The budget did have some minor revisions since May 26, which Chief Financial Officer Betsy George said does not change the budget’s big picture.

The fiscal year 2022-2023 budget projects $208.2 million in general fund revenues and $216.1 million in expenses.

“I’m going to focus on some changes that were made based on the City Council’s discussion at the June 7 public hearing and City Council meeting,” she said.

George said the Council suggested adding two additional fire inspectors to its second restoration budget to increase and provide fire prevention services, adding about $200,000 to the Fire Department’s budget.

“The restoration budget for the Fire Department for the fiscal year 2022-2023 is now $2.2 million,” she said. “All other budgets remain the same.”

The new fire budget, coming from the general fund, is now $30.8 million, plus an additional $3.6 million coming from Measure O.
