Council approves CHP Cannabis Grant

Oxnard-- The City Council adopted a resolution authorizing City Manager Alex Nguyen to apply for $376,146 in Grant Funds from the California Highway Patrol (CHP) for use with the fiscal year 2022-2023 CHP Cannabis Grant.

The agreement permits Nguyen or a designee to execute agreements and appropriate funds when the grant is confirmed. Chief Financial Officer Betsy George or a designee will submit financial reports, grant claims and approve CHP Cannabis Grant budget appropriations.

Councilman Bert Perello said the grant looks like one-time money, and he wanted to know the plan for the following years, especially if they are buying equipment.

The money will be used for a DUI Truck and Trailer.

“It states in the staff report that the truck and trailer will be available for any agency in our regional area,” he said. “I was involved with the city when Former Mayor Tim Flynn and Former Mayor Tom Holden were involved with getting the graffiti action program going. There was a trailer that had equipment inside that trailer, and it got thrashed pretty fast.
