Council approves Nguyen and Fischer contract extensions and raises

Oxnard-- The City Council, Thursday, July 28, approved an amendment to the employment agreement between City Manager Alex Nguyen and City Attorney Stephen Fischer.

The agreement increases Nguyen’s salary by 12 percent, $34,200, and extends his contract until July 8, 2029, with no built-in raises during the extension.

Fischer gets a 10 percent increase, $24,853, and extends his contract until July 8, 2027, subject to the base salary increase for executive employees established by the City Council.

The agreement also modifies their severance, upon termination, from six months’ salary with benefits up to nine months’ salary paid in a lump sum.

During Public Comments, Pat Brown said the City has things figured out, and everyone is on a similar page.

“I’m just tired of people coming and going,” she said. “If they’re doing well, why would we want to let them go when things are going right? We are becoming successful, and we have grown a lot in the last couple of years. We need to continue.”
