Port Hueneme--The City of Port Hueneme got a “realistic Covid-19 update during its Monday, February 7, council meeting, which shows numbers dropping, but the city remains behind in vaccination rates compared to the rest of the county.
Public Information Officer Scott Matalon updated the city council, and he said 2.8 million people have been tested or had tests completed between November and January window in the county.
“There was about 411,00 tests done in three weeks of a window, roughly 227,000 tests taken,” he said. “Lots of folks have been tested during our last reporting window.”
He said there have been 40,000 positive cases since the last city council meeting, and at the previous meeting, there were 26,000 cases from November to January.
“Deaths in the county are up; there are 93 additional deaths related to Covid-19,” he said. “Our ICU (Intensive Care Unit) is up five. I did get numbers as of today, and there isn’t a whole lot of change, but there are five more to add to that, so we do currently have 40 in the ICU.”
