Downtown Oxnard Work Plan and Budget approved

Oxnard-- The City Council, Tuesday, January 3, approved the Downtown Oxnard Work Plan and Budget for 2022-2023.

The City has been the largest property owner within the 40-block District comprising the Downtown Oxnard Improvement District since 2000.

In 2019, the Organization that administers the funds collected from the assessments transitioned to become a 501c3 public benefit non-profit organization governed by elected volunteer officers and a Board of Directors.

“It was incorporated as the Downtown Oxnard Improvement Association,” Economic Development Manager Rosie Ornelas said. “The property-based improvement district has been renewed four times and is currently authorized until July 2024.”

She said the City Council adopted a resolution approving the levy and collection of assessments against lots and parcels of real property within the District annually. The City of Oxnard is the pass-through Organization that levies the District’s assessments.

“The City recognizes the importance of having a robust and thriving Downtown, thereby sharing the goals of this important community partner,” she said. “The City is committed to working closely with the Downtown Oxnard Improvement Association to continue to enhance and restore our Historic Downtown.”
