Downtown Ventura MSM moves toward 2025

Ventura—The City Council, Monday, November 17, took no action on the Main Street Moves survey results.

Main Street Moves (MSM) began as a response to COVID-19 restrictions and allowed businesses to expand outdoors, enhancing placemaking in Downtown Ventura with design guidelines and a bollard plan.

Deputy City Manager Brick Connors introduced the item and said it was a team effort.

Economic Development Manager Meridith Hart said Main Street Moves involves many City Departments with the MSM Team.

“The Environmental Impact Report is nearing finalization in January 2025, and we recently gathered and reported the information from property and business owners about how they feel about MSMs and the different options,” she said. “We’re here to discuss different programs with the Council and allow the Staff to develop a longterm sustainable plan.”

The Staff evaluated four programs: long-term closure, long-term reopening, a boundary reduction, and a temporary reopening toward a long-term closure.

“We recommend the City Council approve one option and direct the Council to return in January with a roadmap of that chosen program,” she said. “The program map will be finalized once the EIR is completed in January.”
